Vice Chairman of the Russian Security Council Medvedev said that every individual involved in the Crocus theater terrorist attack, whether directly or indirectly, deserves the death penalty.

"Many people ask me what I should do next. Should I execute them? I think it is necessary. Not only that, everyone involved must be executed. Everyone. Anyone who pays, feels Love or support for terrorist groups must die," Mr. Dmitry Medvedev, vice chairman of the Russian Security Council, commented on March 25 about the suspects in the Crocus City Hall theater terrorist attack.

The statement was made by Mr. Medvedev after Russian officials brought four suspects to appear in court. These suspects appeared with bruised faces and many injuries, a sign that they may have been strongly suppressed during the arrest and interrogation process.

State Duma deputy (Russian lower house of parliament) Alexander Spiridonov announced on March 26 that the Federal Civil Affairs Chamber, the agency that researches and drafts laws for the parliament, is ready to propose a draft on restoring the death penalty for crimes. terrorist name.

He said acts of terrorism targeting defenseless civilians were "the most horrifying and cruel crimes, which cannot be forgiven or lenient". He said that a terrorist "cannot atone for his crime even if he spends all his life", so the Russian Criminal Law needs to restore the death penalty to specifically deal with terrorist crimes.

The maximum sentence in Russia today is life imprisonment. Russia stopped applying the death penalty since becoming a member of the Council of Europe, because this is a mandatory condition for joining. Russia withdrew from the Council of Europe in March 2022, but the Russian Constitutional Court a few months later said it would not restore the death penalty, on the grounds that that move "went against the path of humanizing" the policy of establishing France.

Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of Russia's RT television station, said that the death penalty is still "too lenient" punishment for the perpetrators of the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall. She said that the people involved in the incident need to "do hard labor all their lives underground, live underground and have no chance to see the sunlight".

She said that these people "were only allowed to eat bread and water, were forbidden to talk and had no contact with humans".

Alexander Bastrykin, head of the Russian Investigative Committee (SKR), reported to President Vladimir Putin on March 26 that four suspects in the terrorist attack on the night of March 22 at the Crocus City Hall theater had confessed and cleared the air. information about the conspirators and support their actions. However, he did not reveal the identity of the mastermind revealed by the group of suspects.

A day earlier, Russian officials announced the identities of four gunmen in the terrorist attack, including: Dalerdjon Mirzoyev, 32 years old, Saidakrami Rachabalizod, 30 years old, Muhammadsobir Fayzov, 19 years old and Shamsidin Fariduni, 25 years old.

According to Kommersant, Shamsidin Fariduni acted as the leader of the group of gunmen. Fariduni and Fayzov went to the Crocus City Hall theater many times to memorize security arrangements and plan attacks.

SKR requested the arrest of several more suspects who provided accommodation, transportation and cash for the four gunmen.

On March 26, these three related suspects were brought before the Basmanny District Court, including Isroil Islomov, 62 years old, and his two sons Dilovar Islomov, 24 years old, and Aminchon Islomov, 33 years old.

According to SKR, on the night of March 22, the group of suspects used a white Renault to arrive at Crocus City Hall at 7:54 p.m. About 4 minutes later, the group opened fire outside the building, then moved into the theater and shot anyone they encountered.

"The suspects brought plastic bottles containing gasoline, set fire, and then left the building at 8:11 p.m. Initial investigation showed that the attack was carefully planned," Mr. Bastrykin said.

The suspects drove at high speed out of the theater's parking lot, hitting pedestrians, including a family with two young children, seriously injuring two children. The whole incident took place in 17 minutes, before the group of gunmen drove towards Bryansk province, western Russia.

A few hours later, this group was discovered and chased by the police. The four suspects abandoned the car and fled into a forest, but were captured by Russian special forces there.

The terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall left 139 people dead and 182 injured.
