The President of Ho Chi Minh City asked departments to work all weekend

Ho Chi Minh City leaders requested the treasury and relevant departments to work both Saturday and Sunday of the last week of March to ensure the disbursement progress of the first quarter (nearly 8,000 billion VND).

The request was raised by Mr. Phan Van Mai at the 28th Conference of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, term XI, on the morning of March 27, in the context of the city's public investment disbursement difficult to achieve as planned. It is expected that by the end of the first quarter, the disbursed amount will be just over 5,600 billion VND (reaching 7.1%), while the target is over 10%.

According to the Chairman of the City People's Committee, the total social investment capital in the first three months of the year is 68,000 billion VND, of which capital from the budget accounts for 20%. From now until the end of the year, the city must disburse public investment of 73,000 billion VND, or over 20,000 billion VND per quarter.

"This is not an easy task. Departments and districts must consider public investment as a key task throughout," Mr. Mai said, asking units to focus on site clearance and dismantling procedures. to speed up progress.

Previously, Director of the Department of Planning and Investment Le Thi Huynh Mai said that by 2024, Ho Chi Minh City must disburse more than 79,260 billion VND of public investment capital. The city sets a disbursement target of 95% or more. Specifically, strive for the first quarter to reach more than 10% (equivalent to nearly 8,000 billion VND), the second quarter to reach 30% or more, and the third quarter to reach more than 70% to ensure the fourth quarter reaches more than 95%.

By the end of March 26, the City State Treasury had just disbursed nearly 2,500 billion VND, reaching a rate of 3.1% of the total allocated capital plan. At the conference, Ho Chi Minh City Statistics Department Director Nguyen Khac Hoang said the city's first quarter growth is expected to reach over 6.5%. This is the highest level since 2020 and much higher than the same period last year. Many manufacturing and service sectors are developing stably, especially key industry groups; Industrial production index increased by 5.1% (this is the highest increase in the past 4 years); Total retail sales of goods and service revenue increased by 12.2%.

Some growth drivers such as investment, domestic consumption, import-export activities and tourism have changed, in which export turnover increased by 7.5%. Tourism activities recovered when domestic tourists increased by 6.6%, international visitors increased by 32.4%, and tourism revenue increased by 23.8% over the same period.
