All available air tickets to HCMC after the holiday season have been fully booked

Economy seats on flights from northern and central regions to Ho Chi Minh City have completely sold out in the aftermath of the holiday season, leaving passengers with little choice but to opt for business class tickets, which are priced as high as VND10 million ($410).

Between Feb. 15 and 19, the demand for flights from Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Vinh, Quang Binh, and Gia Lai to HCMC has been exceptionally high, resulting in a complete lack of available seats.

For the current week, only business class seats on the Hanoi-HCMC route offered by Vietnam Airlines remain, but at a hefty price tag of VND10 million. This scarcity has left travelers with urgent needs scrambling to find alternative transportation methods to reach the southern city.

The post-holiday surge in travel demand, as individuals return to major cities for work, has exacerbated the situation.

Ngoc Son, hailing from Hanoi, is contemplating taking a detour through Bangkok to reach HCMC, estimating a total expense of around VND7.5 million.

Although seats are expected to become available after Feb. 19, prices are anticipated to remain steep. The lowest fare for the Hai Phong-HCMC route will start at VND3.5 million, and starting the following week, fares for Hanoi-HCMC flights will begin at VND3 million.

On the final day of the holiday, Wednesday, Tan Son Nhat International Airport in HCMC experienced a significant influx of passengers, handling 148,000 individuals across 836 flights. This surpassed the expected maximum of 140,000 passengers and marked the busiest day of the entire holiday period.
