Can Wuling Bingo handle steep slopes and rough roads in Vietnam?

Launched in early November for Vietnamese customers, Wuling Bingo has attracted attention by pricing lower than some previous rumors. This Chinese electric vehicle comes in 4 versions, with prices ranging from 349-569 million VND; with 3 lower versions having a hatchback style, the highest version is positioned as an SUV.

Wuling Bingo has a starting price equivalent to the standard version of the Kia Morning (349 million VND) and slightly lower than the Hyundai Grand i10 (from 360 million VND). The VinFast VF 5, an A-class electric vehicle, is priced from 460 million VND when renting the battery and from 540 million VND when purchasing the battery.

Along with the customer's interest in a new car model, the competitive price of Wuling Bingo has also sparked controversy regarding its performance.

Can Wuling Bingo climb steep slopes when carrying full load?

The hatchback versions of Wuling Bingo are equipped with an electric motor located in the front axle, producing a maximum power of 67 horsepower and a maximum torque of 150Nm.

After its launch, a media outlet in Vietnam experienced and reviewed this Chinese electric vehicle. In which, a video showing the Wuling Bingo vehicle struggling to climb a slope (which is said to have a 12-degree slope) at Ba Vi National Park generated a lot of debate.

Following these images, most users have contrasting opinions about Wuling Bingo. A social media account named Long Nguyễn stated: "If it can't climb a slope with a full load, then people living in apartments should not buy this car".

Nickname Duy Khánh had a different opinion: "The engine of the Bingo is weak indeed, but this car is made for urban driving only, no apartment has a slope of up to 12 degrees".

This is not the first entity to test the high slope capability of Wuling Bingo. Previously, an international YouTube channel called Moladin also conducted a similar test with the hatchback version.

According to the test, the vehicle could not move forward after stopping in the middle of the slope while carrying 5 people, even though it has a hill start assist feature. Moreover, when there was only the driver, the car still failed, partly due to the moisture and mud on the slope in the clip, not a completely slippery asphalt road.

Fast charging support but very "picky" when used in Vietnam

In addition to climbing slopes, the charging issue of Wuling Bingo also attracts a lot of discussions.

Unlike its "sibling" Mini EV, which only has an AC charging port (usually called slow charging), Wuling Bingo has a DC charging port (usually called fast charging). In theory, the car can use fast charging stations at public stations that many third-party units are developing in Vietnam.

Most fast charging stations in Vietnam use the CCS2 port, so to use Wuling Bingo, you will need to purchase and carry a converter (adapter) from GB/T to CCS2 (Photo: Gia An).

However, the fast charging port of Bingo follows the GB/T standard in China, not the CCS2 (European standard) which is widely used in Vietnam. Therefore, if you want to use the fast charging feature, you will need to purchase an adapter from GB/T to CCS2.

TMT Motors will sell this adapter, but the official price has not been determined. Adapters on the market cost around 20-30 million VND depending on the type.

Sharing with Dân trí reporter, a representative of the electric car business segment of TMT Motors said that the unit had surveyed and found that most of their customers would charge at home. Therefore, whether the charging port and charger distributed with Wuling Bingo are GB/T or CCS2 is not a significant issue.

In reality, early Bingo buyers will receive a 3.3kW AC charger and a 7kW DC charger as a gift. The company stated that the charging time from a 220V power source with AC charging to charge the battery from 20 to 80% is 8 hours; while with DC charging, it reduces to 4 hours.
