August coincides with the 7th month of the lunar calendar, the annual low point in the Vietnamese car market, as consumers tend to avoid making large purchases during this period. However, many new car models are still gearing up for launch, adding more choices for Vietnamese customers.

MG7

Some dealerships have stated that the MG7 model has been brought to Vietnam, ready to be launched in the near future, possibly at the end of August or beginning of September. Although there is no verified image and the company has not confirmed the information, sales consultants are already accepting deposits for this D-segment sedan.

The selling price of the MG7 in Vietnam has not been disclosed. Previous rumors suggested that this "newcomer" will have at least 2 versions, starting from over 700 million VND, comparable to a C-segment sedan like the Hyundai Elantra (599-799 million VND).

Despite its Chinese origins, the MG7 still attracts the attention of Vietnamese customers due to its attractive design. In its home country, this model is equipped with LED headlights/taillights, 19-inch alloy wheels, a 4-pipe exhaust system, and an active spoiler that can be opened/closed like a sports car.

The interior of the MG7 is quite modern, with a display screen reminiscent of the design of Mercedes-Benz models (Photo: MG).

In China, the MG7 has 2 engine options. The first is a 1.5L turbocharged engine, combined with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and front-wheel drive system, producing 183 horsepower and 300Nm.

The second option is a 2.0L turbocharged engine, with specs of 254 horsepower and 405Nm. The drivetrain on this variant is still front-wheel drive, but will feature electronic limited-slip differential and electronic controlled suspension. The transmission is a 9-speed automatic from ZF.

Suzuki XL7 Hybrid

According to dealerships, the Suzuki XL7 Hybrid will be brought to Vietnam in August, imported as a whole from Indonesia. Some sales consultants have already started accepting deposits, indicating that the selling price may slightly increase compared to the gasoline version currently available (599.9 million VND).

The overall design of the Suzuki XL7 Hybrid is similar to the gasoline version, but some details are painted black (Photo: Suzuki).

The equipment of the Suzuki XL7 is basically carried over from the gasoline version. In Indonesia, the car is equipped with features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and a rearview camera integrated into the rearview mirror, similar to the Ertiga Hybrid.

The hybrid drivetrain on this model is similar to the Ertiga Hybrid, consisting of a 1.5L engine (103 horsepower, 138Nm) combined with a 4-speed automatic transmission, an electric motor, and lithium-ion battery. This configuration is only mild-hybrid, as the electric motor only functions for automatic stop-start, improving acceleration capability.

Therefore, the Suzuki XL7 Hybrid does not have a pure electric driving mode (EV Mode) like other hybrid models currently available on the market.

Nissan Almera 2024

Sales consultants have already started accepting deposits for the Nissan Almera 2024, suggesting a launch date at the end of August or beginning of September. This information has not been confirmed by the Japanese car manufacturer, but the model was seen at an emissions testing center in Hanoi in mid-June.

As an intermediate facelift model, the exterior of the Nissan Almera 2024 will remain the same, but with a new grille and alloy wheels. Sales consultants have hinted that this model will come with features like adaptive cruise control, a center armrest in the front seats, and wireless phone charging.

The engine of the car will remain the same 1.0L turbocharged unit, producing 100 horsepower and 152Nm, paired with a manual gearbox or CVT.

The Almera 2024 still lacks active safety features, while this technology is gradually becoming more common in the B-segment sedan segment, already present in models like the Honda City, Hyundai Accent, and Toyota Vios (some features).

The current Nissan Almera has a suggested retail price ranging from 539-595 million VND. The upgraded version of the Japanese car is expected not to increase in price, and may even decrease, according to some sales consultants.

Haval Jolion

According to earlier information from dealerships, the Haval Jolion is expected to be introduced to Vietnamese customers in August, after several months of delay. This model is positioned in the B+ crossover segment, directly competing with the Toyota Corolla Cross and Mazda CX-30.

Representatives from the company have stated that the Haval Jolion will have 2 versions (Pro and Ultra), with a starting price below 700 million VND. This price point is competitive compared to the 2024 Corolla Cross, which starts from 820 million VND for the gasoline version and goes up to 950 million VND for the hybrid variant.

Regardless of the version, the Haval Jolion will use a hybrid drivetrain, with a 1.5L turbocharged gasoline engine combined with an electric motor and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This setup will deliver a total output of 190 horsepower and 375Nm of torque.

GAC M8 and GS8

The first two products from the Chinese car brand GAC are set to be launched in August, including the GS8 and M8 models. The GS8 is positioned in the E-segment SUV segment, competing with names like Ford Explorer, Hyundai Palisade, and Volkswagen Teramont/Teramont X.

The GAC GS8 has dimensions of 4,980mm in length, 1,950mm in width, and 1,780mm in height (Photo: GAC).

When brought to Vietnam, it is likely that the GAC GS8 will be equipped with a turbocharged 2.0L gasoline engine, producing 248 horsepower and 400Nm, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive system.

The interior of the GAC GS8 is quite imposing yet modern, featuring a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.6-inch infotainment screen, a head-up display (HUD)… (Photo: GAC).

The GAC M8 is positioned in the minivan segment with an eye-catching design reminiscent of the Toyota Alphard. This Chinese model competes with the Kia Carnival and Volkswagen Viloran.

The equipment of the GAC M8 has not been disclosed, but in the international market, the car features full LED headlights, power sliding doors on both sides, and 17-inch or 18-inch alloy wheels, depending on the version.

It is likely that both the GAC M8 and GS8 will be imported as a whole from China (Photo: GAC).

The interior of the M8 shares some design elements with its "big brother" GS8, like the 14.6-inch infotainment screen, but overall it appears more luxurious, featuring a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel. The second-row seats in the car are power adjustable with massage function, and the dual-pane sunroof creates a starry sky effect.

When brought to Vietnam, it is likely that the GAC M8 will only have a turbocharged 2.0L gasoline engine, producing 251 horsepower and 380Nm. In China, this minivan also has hybrid or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) options.

The GAC GS8 and M8 are expected to have a selling price of up to 1 billion VND. This price point may not be cheap, but it is still appealing compared to other E-SUV and minivan models; these are two vehicle categories that are quite specific, catering primarily to customers with special needs.
