The Waterbury Police Department in Connecticut recently announced the recovery of a stolen 2023 Ferrari 812 GTS in the nearby city of Greenwich, with an interesting detail.
The fate of the $575,000 supercar was largely determined by a pair of $129 Apple AirPods.

According to US TV station WFSB, the owner had left the AirPods inside the Ferrari when it was stolen on September 16. Authorities used Apple's Find My app to locate both the earbuds and the expensive coupe.
They determined that the car was parked at a gas station and deployed officers to the location. However, the driver fled, later identified as 22-year-old Dion Schontten. Ironically, the thief left behind an iPhone.
Less than 10 days later, Waterbury police apprehended two suspects related to the theft of a 2023 Acura TLX in New York. Schontten was one of the two, arrested along with 19-year-old Keon Webster, charged with his 7th count of motor vehicle theft.
With the iPhone left behind on a previous occasion, Schontten was identified as the culprit in two car thefts.
