Ford Territory set to introduce sportier variant in an effort to keep up with Mazda CX-5

Some Ford sales consultants have started taking deposits for the new Territory Sport model, while stating that the company plans to launch this car in Vietnam in the third quarter of this year. The American car brand has not confirmed this information.

It is known that the Territory Sport has been introduced in two other Southeast Asian countries, the Philippines and Cambodia, in the past few months.

Referring to the Philippines market, the Ford Territory Sport is priced at 1,625 million Philippine pesos (equivalent to 712 million Vietnamese dong), which is 26,000 Philippine pesos higher (about 11 million Vietnamese dong) than the Titanium X version. Therefore, the Territory Sport is likely to become the most expensive version of this crossover if it is launched in our country.

Currently, the Trend, Titanium, and Titanium X versions are distributed by the company with prices ranging from 799-929 million dong.

Compared to the Territory models currently on the road in Vietnam, the exterior of the Sport version stands out with glossy/matte black details on the grille, roof, side mirrors, window trim, 19-inch alloy wheels, decorative panels on the bumper/door wings, and the "Territory" emblem on the rear door.

In the cabin, the manufacturer still applies the two-tone color scheme but uses a contrasting black-white combination instead of the familiar blue-black to Vietnamese consumers. Many areas such as the seats or armrests are accentuated with stitching lines or orange accents.

The headliner fabric in the car has been changed from white to black, while the glossy black plastic panels and textured wood trim on the dashboard and "saddle" are replaced with carbon fiber patterned ones. Another upgrade of the Territory Sport is the remote engine start feature through the smart key.

Developed based on the Titanium X version, the Territory Sport inherits the convenience and safety technology of this crossover model in Vietnam. Notable features include full-LED exterior lights, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity.

The car has a panoramic sunroof, power-adjustable front seats with integrated ventilation system, power-operated trunk with "kick trunk" feature, Qi standard wireless charging, 360-degree camera, automatic parking assist, and Ford Co-Pilot 360 ADAS package.

The rear seats of the Territory are highly praised for their overall width, the 2,726mm wheelbase and nearly flat floor (Photo: Ford).

Under the hood of the Sport version is still the 1.5L turbocharged gasoline engine with a maximum output of 158 horsepower and a peak torque of 248Nm, combined with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch automatic transmission and front-wheel drive system. Drivers can choose between 4 driving modes: Eco, Normal, Sport, and Mountain.

Since its introduction in October 2022, the Ford Territory has maintained good sales and consistently ranks in the top 10 best-selling cars each month. By the end of the first 6 months of 2024, the product holds the 2nd position in the C-segment CUV sales ranking with a total of 2,949 units sold, just behind the Mazda CX-5.

Entering the market with a design suitable for Vietnamese customers, spacious interior, many amenities, and modern safety technology, the Territory has gradually overcome concerns related to its Chinese origin. The manufacturer and dealers often offer promotions, making this model more attractive compared to the Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, and Honda CR-V.

The introduction of the Sport version promises to help the Territory attract more young customers. This could also be the efforts of the American car brand to increase the distance from its competitors, as well as narrow the gap when the Mazda CX-5 sales are 1.8 times higher than the Territory in the first half of this year.
