Khi được hỏi về vụ va chạm này sau buổi tập, ông Shin cho hay: "Tôi làm vậy để Senanta tập trung. Cậu ấy không thực hiện bài tập đúng như hướng dẫn".
Sananta nằm trong thành phần đội tuyển Indonesia dự Asian Cup 2023, nhưng không thi đấu trận nào vì chấn thương. Tại giải VĐQG mùa này, anh ghi tám bàn qua 21 trận cho CLB Persis Solo.

Indonesia đang rèn quân để chuẩn bị cho hai trận đấu Việt Nam tại vòng loại World Cup 2026 - khu vực châu Á. Thầy trò Shin sẽ tiếp Việt Nam trên sân nhà Gelora Bung Karno ngày 21/3, rồi làm khách tại Mỹ Đình ngày 26/3.

Tái đấu tại vòng loại World Cup 2026, HLV Shin đặt quyết tâm thắng Việt Nam cả hai trận bằng mọi giá. Đội bóng của ông được đánh giá cao hơn khi có trong đội hình 10 cầu thủ nhập tịch, đa phần từ Hà Lan.
Tuần trước, trung vệ Duy Mạnh từng nói đùa rằng "không biết Việt Nam đối đầu Indonesia hay Hà Lan", ám chỉ về việc đối thủ có quá nhiều cầu thủ nhập tịch.
HLV Shin tỏ ra không hài lòng về nhận xét này. Ông nói: "Có lẽ cậu ấy không đọc kỹ. Các cầu thủ nhập tịch đều có dòng máu Indoneia. Mà cầu thủ có quốc tịch Indonesia thì họ đương nhiên được khoác áo đội tuyển".
Tại bảng F, Việt Nam đang đứng thứ hai với ba điểm, sau thắng 2-0 trên sân Philippines và thua Iraq 0-1 trong loạt trận tháng 11/2023. Indonesia có cùng một điểm như Philippines, nhưng đứng cuối bảng vì kém chỉ số phụ.
