In the first month of sales, the upgrade version significantly boosts Santa Fe's sales over Fortuner

In September, the mid-size SUV segment continued to be vibrant with the launch of the new generation Hyundai Santa Fe. Despite sparking controversy over its design and engine options (no longer offering diesel engines), this version still contributed to boosting Santa Fe's sales.

According to data released by TC Motor, Hyundai Santa Fe recorded sales of 758 units in September, an increase of 48% compared to August. The new generation of this D-segment crossover was introduced on September 18, and even though the old model was almost sold out at dealerships before that, the figures still reflect the impact of the new version.

Of course, to accurately assess the attraction of the 2024 Santa Fe, we will need to wait for the October sales results. At that time, with one full month of distribution, there will be enough basis for analysis.

With 758 units sold, Hyundai Santa Fe still ranks 2nd in the D-segment SUV segment in September, after Ford Everest (948 units). However, the sales gap between these two products is only 180 units, less than the previous month (301 units).

At the same time, Hyundai Santa Fe continues to widen the gap with Toyota Fortuner in sales. The sales of the Japanese model grew by 91% in September, but it could only secure the 3rd position with 451 units sold.

Toyota Fortuner sold a total of 2,250 units from the beginning of 2024 until the end of September. Meanwhile, Hyundai Santa Fe sold 3,899 units, almost double (Photo: Đức Nguyễn).

The other models in the D-segment SUV segment such as Mazda CX-8, Kia Sorento, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, and Isuzu mu-X all reported growth in sales, but their rankings remained unchanged compared to the previous month. Isuzu mu-X not only has the lowest sales in this group of vehicles but also continues to appear on the list of 10 slowest-selling vehicles in Vietnam.

Apart from the drawbacks of less appealing design and less powerful engines compared to its competitors, Isuzu mu-X also faces a disadvantage by not receiving a 50% reduction in registration fees under the government's incentive policy, as it is a completely imported vehicle. Meanwhile, most of its competitors are locally assembled.

To enhance the competitiveness of the Isuzu mu-X, many dealerships are offering significant discounts on this model in October. A dealership in Hanoi is enticing customers to buy the vehicle with discounts ranging from 100-210 million VND depending on the version, with prices starting from 810.8 million VND after discounts, up to 1.04 billion VND.

Not only Isuzu mu-X has promotions, the Ford Everest model also receives a direct discount of 22 million VND for the top 3 variants (Sport, Titanium, and Titanium+). The standard variant (Ambiente) with a listed price of 1.099 billion VND is fully supported with registration fee waiver, equivalent to a discount of around 110 million VND.

After applying the dealer's discount, the actual starting price of the Isuzu mu-X is comparable to the mid-range price of a C-segment SUV like the Mazda CX-5 (749-979 million VND) (Photo: Isuzu dealership).
