It has been 4 months since Mazda introduced the EZ-6 electric car at the Beijing Auto Show, initially announcing that this model would only be available in the Chinese market. However, due to positive feedback, the Japanese automaker has changed its plans and declared that the EZ-6 will be turned into a global product.

Mazda stated that the newcomer EZ-6 will be available in the market this autumn, first in China and Europe. The Japanese automaker has not specified which European countries the car will be sold in, nor confirmed where else outside of these two markets.

Although the EZ-6 is considered the successor to the discontinued Mazda6 model, the platform chassis is a different story.

The EZ-6 uses the same EPA1 chassis platform as the Deepal SL03, an electric sedan produced by Mazda's joint venture partner Changan, with both a pure electric variant (BEV) and a version that uses a small gasoline engine to support battery charging (EREV).

Mazda will sell the EZ-6 with both configurations in China, but for other markets like Europe, it is unclear whether there will be an EREV configuration.

There are not yet full specifications available, but the EZ-6 has been confirmed to be equipped with a motor similar to the Deepal SL03, with two options. One is an all-electric configuration, with the electric motor located at the rear, providing 215 horsepower or 255 horsepower - both with 320Nm of torque.

There are two battery options - 58.9kWh or 66.8kWh, for the all-electric models with operating ranges from 530km to 610km, according to CLTC standards.

The second option is a hybrid electric configuration, with a 1.5L I4 gasoline engine combined with an electric motor producing 215 horsepower or 235 horsepower, with torque remaining at 320Nm, along with a 19kWh or 28.4kWh battery pack.

The smaller battery pack provides an electric range of 135km and a hybrid range of 1,140km, while the larger battery pack offers an electric range of 200km or a hybrid range of 1,200km.

In the official statement, Mazda mentioned that the all-electric version has a range of nearly 600km, while the PHEV version is expected to have a range of over 1,000km.
