A survey on technology experience in the US by J.D. Power shows that a segment of consumers tend to be disinterested in new technologies, but also reveals that some brands are performing better than others.

Genesis is one of the brands that meet the needs of customers in terms of interior technology (Photo illustration: Genesis).

According to the survey results, features such as facial recognition, fingerprint scanning, and gesture-controlled functions are not very popular as they are considered unnecessary by many car buyers.

For gesture-controlled features, 21% of survey participants stated that they do not have a need for them, and car owners also reported an average of 43.4 issues per 100 vehicles related to these systems.

Advanced driver assistance systems are becoming increasingly common in the automotive industry, but not all consumers like them. Active driving systems that require the driver to keep hands on the steering wheel are deemed less useful, scoring 7.61 out of 10, compared to similar systems that allow hands-free operation scoring 7.98.

Front passenger screens are also not well-liked. Many car owners find them unnecessary, have usability issues, and complicate the new vehicle delivery process for customers.

The survey results are based on the opinions of 81,926 2024 model car owners in the US. They were surveyed after owning the vehicle for 90 days. 40 different car technologies were analyzed and categorized based on utility, automation level, energy and sustainability, and connectivity.

Among all the brands analyzed, Genesis ranked highest overall and in the luxury segment for the 4th consecutive year, scoring 584 out of 1,000 points for innovation. This score is higher than Lexus (535 points) and BMW (528 points).

The Genesis GV70 model received the highest rating for forward collision warning technology.

Among mainstream brands, Hyundai leads for the 5th consecutive year, with 518 points, followed by Kia (499 points) and GMC (439 points).
