The 80-year-old star of 'Squid Game' banned from airwaves due to seduction scandal

Specifically, KBS has decided to ban all programs related to Oh Young Soo after the actor from "Squid Game" was convicted of sexual harassment.

In mid-March, major newspapers in South Korea reported that actor Oh Young Soo was sentenced to 8 months in prison but was granted a suspended sentence with a probation period of 2 years for the crime of sexual harassment. In addition, Oh Young Soo has to complete a 40-hour sexual violence treatment program.

Earlier, at a court hearing in February, the prosecutor requested a 1-year prison sentence and restrictions on the actor's work.

Oh Young Soo was investigated for sexually harassing a woman 50 years his junior since November 2022. The victim filed a lawsuit against the veteran star in 2021 but the police returned the complaint. She continued to file an additional lawsuit and this time the Suwon district prosecutor's office in South Korea approved the complaint and initiated an investigation.

According to the victim, the assault occurred in 2017. The woman said that Oh Young Soo deliberately hugged her while they were walking together. She was unexpectedly kissed on the cheek by the actor when entering a password at her house. In response, Oh Young Soo emphasized that he only held her hand to guide her in the right direction.

Oh Young Soo clarified: "That was just her own thoughts. We walked around the lake, I held her hand to show her the right direction. I apologized to her because she said she would not make a fuss. But that doesn't mean I admit to the allegations."

Oh Young Soo has been under investigation for over a year. Appearing in court last year, the veteran star issued a public apology. The Korea Herald reported that Oh Young Soo remained silent in the face of most questions from reporters when leaving the court in March. He also stated that he will appeal.

Oh Young Soo (born in 1944) is a veteran artist in the South Korean entertainment industry. He began his artistic career at the age of 25.

To date, the 80-year-old star has appeared in over 200 films, most notably the film "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...and Spring Again" and the TV series "Squid Game." With his role as the cunning mastermind in "Squid Game," Oh Young Soo became the most famous elderly artist in South Korea in 2021.

At the beginning of 2022, the 78-year-old actor won the Best Supporting Actor award at the 79th Golden Globe Awards and made history as the first South Korean to be named at this prestigious awards ceremony. This was also Oh Young Soo's first award in the film industry.

The veteran actor admitted that his life has almost completely changed after the success of "Squid Game."
