The upgraded version of Wuling HongGuang Mini EV will have a completely new look

On September 13, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (MIIT) revealed the technical specifications of the upgraded version of the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV with a new exterior design while the interior remains unchanged.

The Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, introduced in China in 2020, was immediately well-received by the market, consistently leading global sales in the mini electric car segment. This model is assembled by the joint venture SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW).

According to the registration documents at MIIT, the upgraded version of the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV is 3.256mm long, 1.510mm wide, and 1.578mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2.190mm. The corresponding dimensions of the old version are 2.920 x 1.493 x 1.621mm, with a wheelbase of 1.940mm.

Although the new model is slightly larger, the interior space may essentially remain the same. The biggest change in the upgrade is the new exterior design. The angular style will be replaced by a rounder design, similar to the Wuling Bingo model.

The Wuling Hongguang Mini EV is powered by an electric motor located at the rear axle, delivering a maximum output of 40 horsepower. This is the electric motor used for the highest variant currently. Therefore, it is now a standard feature. The car has a top speed of 100km/h and uses a lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery pack.

According to the registration documents at MIIT, this new model features a roof design in either white color or matching the body color, two types of wheel trims, and multiple exterior paint colors. The interior design remains the same as the current version.

Currently, the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV is priced from 32,800 to 99,900 Chinese Yuan (114-343 million VND) in China. The new model is expected to have a starting price of around 32,000 Chinese Yuan (111 million VND).

The Wuling Hongguang Mini EV surpassed the 1 million mark in sales in early 2023 and sold 237,863 units last year. This number is lower than the 404,823 units sold in 2022 and 395,451 units in 2021.

Wuling has introduced several versions of the Hongguang Mini EV, including a convertible version and a higher-end Mini EV Macaron version, but this is the first time since 2020 that the standard version has been upgraded.
