This hybrid car owner had to wait 9 months to replace the battery

Hybrid cars are becoming more popular nowadays, but it seems that not every maintenance issue goes smoothly. Kari Kind, from Florida, had to wait over 9 months to find a replacement battery source for her 2015 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid.

Kari Kind's frustrating days began when the battery pack in her car suddenly ran out of power. In an interview with local TV station News 6, she said, "It sounded like a malfunctioning pinball machine. There was a loud noise, and then the lights went out."

When she brought her 2015 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid to the dealership last October, she was informed that finding a replacement battery for this model was very difficult due to supply issues. Initially, the service department estimated a waiting time of 1 to 6 months, but the situation turned out to be much worse.

It wasn't until July this year that Kind got her car back, after 9 months of waiting. Hyundai provided a substitute vehicle for customers to use temporarily during the waiting period. The company also offered to buy back her car at the current Kelly Blue Book (KBB) value, but she declined.

In response to News 6 reporters, a Hyundai representative stated: "Due to slow supply of raw materials from vendors, we are experiencing a backlog of orders for battery parts for Sonata Hybrid models from 2011-2015. We understand this concern and have increased the volume of orders above demand to motivate the supply chain. Hyundai is working directly with affected suppliers to assist them and ensure that the parts supply chain remains unobstructed."
