Upcoming cars to be unveiled in October: more than half will be revealed at VMS 2024

The number of new cars to be launched in Vietnam in October is expected to increase significantly, mainly imported completely built-up (CBU) cars. Many new products will be unveiled at the Vietnam Motor Show (VMS) 2024, taking place on October 23-27.

Although many luxury car brands are missing from the event, VMS 2024 is still the biggest event of the year for the automotive industry in our country, with the potential to create a significant communication effect.

Hyundai Tucson 2024

Recently, a Hyundai Tucson 2024 with an uncovered exterior and even having a license plate was spotted on the streets of Hanoi. TC Motor has not officially confirmed the launch date of this model yet, but at present, the current generation Tucsons have almost entirely sold out at dealerships.

Therefore, it is highly likely that the new Tucson will be introduced to Vietnamese customers in October. Dealers indicate that this model may still be offered with 4 variants and 3 engine options like the current generation, including a 2.0L petrol, a 2.0L diesel, and a 1.6L turbo petrol engine.

However, the price of the Hyundai Tucson 2024 is expected to increase significantly to around 1 billion VND. This is just a reference information, and it does not exclude the possibility of offering it to customers to choose from the remaining old models, priced between 769-919 million VND depending on the variant, not including promotions.

Haval Jolion

Although the brand's representatives have confirmed its debut, the Haval Jolion has continuously delayed its arrival for Vietnamese customers. Dealers once again inform that this model will be introduced in October, but the user response has been lukewarm, as it has missed the "hot" moment.

When launched, the Haval Jolion will be imported completely built-up from Thailand, similar to its "big brother" H6 HEV (Photo: Motortrivia).

Prior to this, the company's representatives stated that the Haval Jolion will be available in 2 versions, with the standard version expected to be priced below 700 million VND. This model is positioned in the B+ SUV segment, competing with models like the Toyota Corolla Cross and Mazda CX-30.

The Haval Jolion only has a hybrid powertrain option, featuring a turbocharged 1.6L petrol engine combined with an electric motor, delivering a maximum total output of 190 horsepower and a maximum torque of 375Nm. It comes with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and front-wheel drive system.

Volkswagen Teramont 2024

Volkswagen Vietnam has confirmed the launch of a new SUV in October, which is the Teramont 2024, according to experts' conclusions based on the leaked images. The car will undergo a facelift and be shifted to CBU imports from China, instead of the U.S. like the current generation.

In addition to some changes in the interior/exterior design, the Volkswagen Teramont 2024 promises to have more attractive features, such as active safety systems (ADAS). This technology package is lacking in the current generation, making the German car somewhat inferior in terms of equipment compared to similar-sized competitors (Palisade, Explorer).

Although the shift from being imported from the U.S. to China, the price of the Volkswagen Teramont 2024 is expected to be high. Cars originating from this market are not exempt from import duties like some Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand or Indonesia.

Experts predict that this model could have a selling price of up to 2 billion VND. In contrast, the Hyundai Palisade is currently priced between 1,469-1,589 billion VND, while the Ford Explorer is priced at 2,099 billion VND.

The interior of the car intended for the Vietnamese market is expected to have a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12-inch center screen, front power-adjustable seats with heating/ventilation, second-row heating, 3-zone automatic air conditioning, 12 Harman Kardon speakers, wireless charging, panoramic sunroof... BYD Tang

Having previously withdrawn from VMS 2024, BYD Vietnam has confirmed its return, introducing some new products. The most notable one is the BYD Tang, not because of its technology or features, but because of its name.

In the Vietnamese pronunciation, the word "Tang" means "loss" or "sadness," which has resulted in mixed reactions from users despite its positive connotations in Chinese history. The specific equipment of this car for our country has not been disclosed yet. However, looking at the previously introduced products by BYD Vietnam, it can be expected that this Tang EV model will have good technological content.

In China, the highest configuration of the BYD Tang is equipped with a 108.8kWh battery, providing a maximum operating range of up to 635km on a full charge.

Honda Civic 2024

Dealers indicate that the Honda Civic 2024 will be introduced by the Japanese manufacturer at the VMS 2024 exhibition. The car will undergo a mid-life facelift and continue to be completely imported from Thailand.

An important new feature in the Civic 2024 is the introduction of a hybrid powertrain, similar to the model in Thailand. If this information is correct, this will be the first time this C-segment sedan has a hybrid powertrain, and will become the second Honda model in Vietnam to feature hybrid technology, following the CR-V.

In Thailand, the hybrid version of the Honda Civic 2024 uses a 2.0L petrol engine (141 horsepower), paired with an electric motor (181 horsepower and 315Nm), coupled with a CVT gearbox and front-wheel drive system. The operation of this system is similar to the CR-V e:HEV (flexible switching between full electric, series hybrid, and parallel hybrid).

Toyota Camry 2024

Some sources suggest that the Toyota Camry 2024 will be introduced at the VMS 2024 exhibition. This information has not been confirmed by the Japanese automaker, as the model will also be launched in Thailand in October (where Camry is exported to Vietnam).

Dealers share that the Toyota Camry 2024 will only have 3, instead of 4 variants like the current generation. The standard 2.0G variant and 2.5Q will be removed; the 2.0Q variant will be the new standard version, with the rest being the 2.5HEV variants, with the exact names unknown.

If this information is accurate, experts expect the additional hybrid variant of the Toyota Camry 2024 to be competitively priced at around 1.2-1.3 billion VND. The current generation of this D-segment sedan only has a single hybrid variant with a suggested retail price of up to 1,495 billion VND, making it less accessible to the majority of users.

Subaru Crosstrek

Previously distributed in Vietnam under the name XV but without much success, the Subaru Crosstrek will return to our country in October with a completely new version. Dealers indicate that the car will be introduced at VMS 2024.

The Subaru Crosstrek is positioned in the B-SUV segment, but its actual size is slightly smaller than the Toyota Corolla Cross. The car has dimensions of 4,480mm in length, 1,800mm in width, and 1,580mm in height (Photo: Subaru).

The equipment configuration of the Subaru Crosstrek for Vietnam is still unknown. Internationally, the car's strong point is its 2.0L naturally aspirated engine, combined with a CVT automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system, producing 154 horsepower and 196Nm.

These figures are slightly higher than the B-SUV models using 1.5L naturally aspirated engines like the Mitsubishi Xforce or Toyota Yaris Cross but lower than models equipped with 1.5L turbocharged engines like the Honda HR-V and Lynk & Co 06 (over 170 horsepower). However, the Subaru Crosstrek is expected to excel in off-road capabilities with its all-wheel drive system.
