In the TV series "Family Members" airing on VTV, artist Van Dung portrays Mrs. Thư - a woman who is greedy for money, neglects her biological child. To her husband, she is always gentle, caring but in reality, she is a very terrible person.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Van Dung said she has played many mother roles but those characters always have a bit of humor, lightness rather than heavy psychological and emotional like the character Thư.

"The four mothers I played before like Mrs. Diễm in Love or Hate is a graceful, loving mother. Mrs. Loan in Against the Sun is youthful, flirtatious. The mothers in 11th of May and Ex-husband, Ex-wife, Ex-lover are struggling to raise their children.

However, Mrs. Thư in Family Members is a cold, sharp, with many ups and downs. Mrs. Thư's unfortunate life is her own choice. This mother loves her child but doesn't dare to show it openly because she is afraid her husband will find out. The character has psychological conflicts rather than being one-dimensional like the other mothers," she shared.

The actress further stated that if she acts too much or too little, it won't capture the character's essence.

Van Dung recounted: "Mrs. Thư is not a straightforward person but is oppressed by a terrible husband. In emotional scenes, I have to study the script, read the character profile carefully, see how to act, and how to portray the character effectively."

When asked, "Some viewers, upon seeing Van Dung in an antagonist role for the first time, said, "Van Dung should stick to comedy, not delve into psychological roles," what do you think?

Van Dung bluntly said: "Whatever has become a habit, people find it hard to accept immediately, like when Van Dung played comedy, people do not want a change. This reaction is similar to the early days I played Mrs. Loan in the movie Against the Sun, many people also said they were not used to seeing me in emotional scenes, just stick to comedy."

It's true that transitioning from a sympathetic character to a villain role may seem strange to viewers. But later on, people gradually grew to love the character Loan, not wanting her to die, just hoping the director would make her weaker."

Van Dung believes that viewers love her, so they are interested in her various roles. She is happy when viewers comment, "Van Dung should stick to comedy."

"In Family Members, all roles have fate, have scenes. If not busy, I often sit to watch the movie and go on Facebook to read comments from the audience. An actor must be in the hearts of the public to be noticed when changing roles," the actress confided.

Van Dung also revealed that director Trinh Le Phong, when inviting her to the film, said this role was "a shoe-in" for her, with no choice of a backup actor. The director was also afraid she would refuse, so he didn't reveal the script immediately. But when the director talked about this role, Van Dung accepted it immediately because she wanted to experience different types of characters.

Van Dung's full name is Lê Vân Dung (born in 1975) in Hanoi, in a family of artists, her father is a director, her mother is an actress. After that, her family moved to Son La, then to Thai Nguyen, and when Van Dung was in second grade, her family moved to Hanoi.

In 1992, at the age of 17, Van Dung participated in the Miss National Contest organized by Báo Tiền Phong (the old name of the Miss Vietnam contest) and entered the Top 15. After that milestone, she started her career in the entertainment industry and became an actress associated with a comedy career.

She became well-known to Vietnamese audiences when she participated in the show Đời cười at the Youth Theater, followed by New Year Meeting (Táo quân), Weekend Meeting, and Gala of Laughter from Vietnam Television.
