VinFast VF 5 Plus owner: 'Still using electric vehicles comfortably in Lang Son

Tác giả:

What made you decide to buy the VF 5 Plus even though you had doubts about the relatively new electric vehicle?

- The decision to buy a VinFast vehicle was quite coincidental. Once, I took a ride-sharing service and got a VinFast Fadil driver. Before that, I thought that smaller cars were not as sturdy as larger ones. But after driving about 300-400 meters, I was very surprised by the smoothness of the car. From that impression, I decided to buy a VinFast vehicle.

I had also researched many VinFast models before choosing the VF 5 Plus. I test-drove the VF e34, VF 8, and VF 9, and although it felt strange and unfamiliar at first, I really liked them. In the end, I decided to be a pioneer and choose the VinFast VF 5 Plus because it was an affordable car with great incentives.

I was considering the VF 8, but I decided to buy the VF 5 Plus to experience it first.

Even though it was just for a trial run, the VinFast VF 5 Plus convinced you. What features of the car do you find satisfactory?

- The VinFast VF 5 Plus has many advantages. Firstly, the car runs smoothly, and the engine noise is almost non-existent. On late nights, the car does not emit loud noises that would bother the neighbors.

The car is clean, with no gasoline smell. When I used to drive gasoline cars, I had to wait for the gasoline smell to dissipate before going to bed.

I also appreciate the car's features, especially in terms of safety. From the solid chassis to the 6 airbags, it is rare to see such equipment in a compact car.

One of the impressive experiences I had with this VinFast VF 5 Plus was with the brake system. Once, I was driving on the highway at night at a speed of 100 km/h. When I tried to change lanes to the right to pass a slow car, I realized that the car on the right was moving very slowly. I thought I was in trouble, but I pressed the brake pedal hard without feeling a "jerk", and stopped right behind the car in front. In that situation, if the brakes were not good, I would have crashed into the car in front.

One of the biggest advantages that many users notice when switching to electric vehicles is the ability to save costs. Is that true for you?

- Basically, when using the VinFast VF 5 Plus, I find it more cost-effective. The price of the VinFast VF 5 Plus with a purchased battery is around 500-600 million VND, but there is a cheaper option which is to rent the battery. If I rent a battery for 1.6 million VND, plus around 400,000 - 500,000 VND for charging, the total cost is about 2.1 million VND per month. However, upon further analysis, renting the battery is essentially a monthly installment for the battery, so I do not count it as an operating cost, but rather just the electricity and maintenance costs. From that perspective, I only spend 400,000 - 500,000 VND per month on operating costs.

For a year, I also get free charging as part of a new promotion from the company. This policy is a very good incentive for existing customers, and it also stimulates consumer demand for those considering switching to an electric vehicle.

Regarding maintenance costs, after driving 12,000 km, I took the car for maintenance and only spent 280,000 VND for 20 checkpoints, which is very cheap.

In Lang Son, I still use electric cars regularly and have abandoned motorcycles.

Range anxiety is one of the biggest concerns for those considering using an electric vehicle. Did you experience a similar worry while using the VinFast VF 5 Plus?

- I have almost no worries about range anxiety. I am in Hanoi and work in Lang Son. Over a 3-month period, I drove 6,000 km using only the electric car, and did not use a motorcycle. I only need to charge once every 7-10 days.

The distance between Lang Son and Hanoi is only about 150 km, so whenever I want to go to Hanoi, I fully charge the battery and go non-stop without needing to charge along the way. Sometimes, I even drive straight from Lang Son to Hanoi and back without needing to charge. One time, I drove from Lang Son to Hanoi, used about 40% of the battery going downhill, and used about 50% going up due to the uphill roads which consume more electricity. So, the total round trip only used about 90% of the battery.

Of course, to prevent any unexpected issues, I always fully charge before starting a journey, so I don't have to worry about anything. Those who worry about running out of battery in the middle of the road mainly do so because they are not familiar with how to plan. When dining or resting, why not take the opportunity to charge?

After a period of experiencing the VinFast VF 5 Plus, how do you think the car can be improved to provide an even better driving experience?

- At this point, the VinFast VF 5 Plus is using software version 9.9, and it operates stably.

However, electric cars are a new technology, not just in Vietnam but also globally, so it is inevitable that there are features that need improvement. In this regard, I believe VinFast has made many improvements in recent productions.
