Anh Thơ, whose real name is Lê Thị Thơ, was born in 1976 in Quảng Xương, Thanh Hóa, in a humble family. From a young age, she had a passion for music and naturally expressed her singing talent. The singer once revealed that at the age of 7-8, she would sneak into local music nights in her hometown.

After completing high school, she passed the entrance exam for the Thanh Hóa College of Arts and then decided to move to Hanoi to study at the National Academy of Music in Vietnam.

Anh Thơ is famous for her folk and chamber music. The singer won the first prize in the Hanoi Television Singing Contest in 1998, the third prize in the National Television Singing Festival in 1999, and the second prize in the National Chamber Music Contest in 2000. Anh Thơ is currently teaching at the National Academy of Music in Vietnam.

Speaking to Dân trí, Anh Thơ said she is grateful to music because it transformed her into a professional singer, well-known to many. However, she still considers herself a "country girl" with a down-to-earth personality, devoid of pretense.

"Honestly, when I go out, I don't want anyone to recognize me. I still wear clothes worth 200-300,000 VND without feeling embarrassed. One time, I covered my face completely and went to the market, but someone still asked: 'Are you Anh Thơ?'. I was startled and said: 'Do I look so bad that you still recognize me?'. The woman laughed and said she recognized me because she loved Anh Thơ's voice.

At home, I don't wear makeup, fancy clothes, or paint my nails. My hands are working hands, I still scrub toilets, clean the house... I think, going to the market dressed in a glamorous gown or an ao dai like on stage is not suitable. Everything has to fit the context," she confided.

Anh Thơ also acknowledges that her straightforward personality has caused her some disadvantages, but she says it's a trait she has had since she was young and cannot change. "Sometimes I think about taking a course to become more tactful, but then I realize it's not right. Living in a way that's not true to myself makes me feel more tormented, so why bother?" she shared.

The singer currently lives with her 4 children in Hanoi. Her eldest child is studying Business Administration at Hanoi National University. Her second child is in 8th grade. The third child was born in 2019, and the youngest was born in 2021.

"Being a single mother of 4 is very challenging. Apart from taking care of the children, I still have to teach, perform, and travel to various provinces, but at home, I play with my children and still have to do everything myself. At one point, I hired 2 helpers, but they were always grumpy and arguing, so I had to do it all myself.

Every day, when the children go to school, I go to teach. If I have to perform in a province, I never stay overnight but always return home. Once, I flew back to Hanoi from Ho Chi Minh City late at night to make it on time to take my child to school the next day. I enjoy taking my children to school," Anh Thơ recounted.

At 48, the singer says she is still open to a new love, but it's difficult to find what she wants. She believes there are many things in life to focus on rather than chasing after someone to see if they love her.

"I don't know why, but I always think I will remain single and lonely for the rest of my life. Maybe that's my fate. Men nowadays don't court women like they used to. Men older than me are either retiring or married. Plus, who would love a mother of 4 like me? Who has the love, health, and time to love their children as much as their own?" she candidly expressed.

Anh Thơ also shared her views on dating younger men: "I think it's alright for a woman to love a younger man, but maybe Anh Thơ hasn't met the right person yet. If a young man has courage, makes me feel confident, and if we have fate, I might fall in love with him (laughs).

I fear the most the idea of giving my feelings to someone and then hurting each other. That's why I think, it's enough for me to love my children. No matter how sad they make me, I still accept and endure it," she said.

The singer said the greatest joy for her is seeing her children grow up, knowing that they care for and love their mother: "I often bond with family members by sitting down and talking to my children. In the past, their father and I didn't get along in terms of personality. My children's father spoke very little, so I always felt lacking and sad. That's why I always try to compensate for my children. I give 200% to ensure my children feel complete and happy."
