The tire manufacturer Bridgestone and the fleet management solution company Webfleet have announced that they have set a new Guinness World Record for the "longest journey by an electric car on a single charge."

Specifically, they stated that a team managed to travel 569.64 miles (916.74km) in an electric Ford Mustang Mach-E.

This figure is said to have broken the previous record of 563.97 miles (907.62km), but the Guinness organization did not accept it as their website records the longest journey achieved by an electric vehicle on a single charge (excluding solar power) to be 1,599.27 miles (2,573.79km).

This record was set in 2023 by a vehicle named muc022, which was not a commercially-produced electric car. It was built by 70 students in 2 years and further improved by 10 students in another year.

The new record was set by a team including two main drivers Kevin Booker and Sam Clarke, along with a support driver Richard Parker. Bridgestone stated that their journey was meticulously documented with independently verified video footage, meter readings, GPS, and battery level data from Webfleet.

The team used a Ford Mach-E Premium Extended Range RWD with a 91kWh battery pack, with a WLTP standard range of 373 miles (600km). The car was equipped with low rolling resistance tires from Bridgestone. Additionally, the standard 19-inch wheels of the Mach-E Premium were replaced with 18-inch ones.

Although the record-setting vehicle was not entirely stock, Bridgestone mentioned that the team achieved an average of 6.25 miles/kWh (10km) on public roads across Norfolk, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, and Cambridgeshire (UK).

The record was set within 24 hours, combining both urban and rural roads to simulate real-world driving conditions.
