Government reduces car registration fee, Mitsubishi cuts benefits for Xpander MT

Starting from September 1st, the Government issued Decree 109 to reduce 50% of registration fees for domestically manufactured and assembled cars, applicable for 3 months. Despite this incentive, some car manufacturers such as Honda and Toyota are still offering promotions for domestic products, allowing customers to enjoy dual benefits.

However, a brand that usually offers discounts like Mitsubishi is cutting back on promotions for some car models, both imported and domestically assembled. Notably, the Xpander MT model (manual transmission) is only given a rearview camera worth 2.5 million VND, without the 50% registration fee support.

The Mitsubishi Xpander MT has a listed price of 560 million VND and is the only version of this model that is domestically assembled. If the Japanese automaker continues its September promotion like previous months, customers can enjoy a dual benefit of 100% registration fee reduction, saving up to 56 million VND.

Unlike the mid-generation upgrade, the Mitsubishi Xpander MT has less appeal than the two automatic versions despite its lower price. However, this model still has its own customer base, focusing on users who need a 7-seater vehicle for service and prioritize price.

From the beginning of 2024 to the end of July, the Xpander MT sold 929 units out of the total 9,265 Xpander units sold in the market. These figures are based on the report of the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers' Association (VAMA).

On the other hand, the highest version of the Mitsubishi Xpander sees an increase in incentives in September, with 100% registration fee support (equivalent to a reduction of 66 million VND) and a complimentary 360-degree camera. This variant has a suggested retail price of 658 million VND and after deducting the promotion, the actual selling price is reduced to 592 million VND.

Experts believe that this incentive is necessary, as the highest version of the Toyota Veloz Cross (660 million VND) continues to receive 50% registration fee support in September. Since this model is domestically assembled, the dual benefit for customers will amount to 66 million VND (cumulative 100% registration fee reduction).

Similarly, Mitsubishi Vietnam is also increasing incentives for the Xpander Cross model, providing 100% registration fee support in September. This promotion can be converted into a reduction of 70 million VND, lowering the selling price of the Xpander Cross from 698 million to 628 million VND.

In addition to the Xpander and Xpander Cross, the company is also adjusting the incentives for the Xforce model in September. Accordingly, the standard version of this popular B-segment SUV will no longer receive 50% registration fee support, instead, the Premium variant - originally only given gifts in previous months.

The Mitsubishi Xforce Premium has a selling price of 680 million VND, with the 50% registration fee support equivalent to 34 million VND, reducing the selling price to 646 million VND. However, most Vietnamese customers are still interested in the standard GLX and Exceed versions due to their more affordable prices.

The Mitsubishi Xforce is imported completely from Indonesia. Meanwhile, some competing models such as the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos are domestically assembled and qualify for the 50% registration fee reduction under Decree 109 (Photo: Nguyen Lam).

The remaining models of Mitsubishi Vietnam such as Attrage, Outlander, and Pajero Sport still maintain their promotional programs. The Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck does not have any incentives, as it has been "cleared out" for several months and is preparing to welcome a new generation on September 11th.
