The Nissan Qashqai was lifted up to a height of 213 feet (about 65 meters) near some skyscrapers in Puteaux, France, and dropped. Although this record has been recognized by Guinness, it appears that it may not be the highest car bungee jump ever.

This daring stunt was performed as part of a new marketing campaign for the Qashqai model (Photo: Nissan).

The record-breaking feat of the Nissan Qashqai e-Power is set to be aired later this month. The Japanese car manufacturer said this advertising campaign aims to revive the spirit of Qashqai's "historic TV commercials."

To carry out this daring stunt, a special cage was used to ensure the safety of the car when lifted up, and professional racer and stuntman Laurent Lasko sat behind the wheel.

The jump went smoothly, and the Qashqai was certified by Guinness to have set a new world record.

However, there have been other notable car bungee jumps from greater heights than the Qashqai, but they were not recognized by Guinness. The organization notes that for a challenge to be recognized, both the car and the bungee cord must remain intact.

For example, in 1992, to promote the new GMC Jimmy model, an American car manufacturer dropped a fully equipped car off the New River Gorge Bridge in Victor, West Virginia. The car had no one sitting behind the wheel but fell from a greater height than the Qashqai - 865 feet (about 263.7 meters), plunging towards the river below.

The Top Gear show also filmed a car bungee jump in its 28th season in 2020. Back then, driver Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff was placed inside a Rover Metro as it plummeted from a height reportedly 540 feet (164 meters) from a dam.
