End-of-year shopping season is usually a peak period for the Vietnamese car market. During this time, car manufacturers often choose to launch new products to attract attention as the demand from consumers increases.

Similar to previous years, the Vietnamese car market in the fourth quarter is expected to welcome the introduction of many new models. Notably, a significant number of these new products are pure electric vehicles, including the following names.

BYD Han and M6

According to sources from Dan Tri newspaper, BYD Vietnam will introduce two new electric models, Han and M6, in the fourth quarter of this year, possibly as early as October. The controversially named BYD Tang SUV has not provided any updates.

Some dealers have started accepting deposits for the BYD Han. This large-sized all-electric sedan is bigger than its "sibling" Seal which has been introduced in Vietnam (Photo: BYD).

With a length, width, and height of 4,995mm, 1,910mm, and 1,495mm respectively, the BYD Han has a size comparable to the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Positioned as a higher-end model, it is likely that this car will have a higher starting price than the BYD Seal (priced at 1,119 billion VND).

In China, the BYD Han is priced at 209,800 - 299,800 Chinese yuan (equivalent to 734 million - 1,049 billion VND). When it comes to Vietnam, this model is also likely to be fully imported from the Chinese market, similar to previous models like the Dolphin, Atto 3, or Seal introduced earlier.

The exterior design of the BYD Han follows a minimalist and neutral style, not as sporty as the Seal model (Photo: BYD).

The configuration and versions of the BYD Han for the Vietnamese market are still unknown. In China, the car has 4 motor options.

Among them, the 3 base versions use a single electric motor on the front axle with technical specifications of 201 horsepower/310Nm, 225 horsepower/350Nm, and 241 horsepower/350Nm respectively. The highest-end variant is equipped with 2 electric motors placed on both axles, with a total power output of 510 horsepower and a maximum torque of 700Nm.

Depending on the variant, the car will be equipped with LFP Blade batteries with different capacities: 60.48kWh, 72kWh, or 85.44kWh. The maximum operating range is respectively 506km, 605km, and 715km according to the CLTC test cycle in China.

Similar to previous BYD products, the interior of the Han EV also provides a technological feel with a distinctive 15.6-inch infotainment screen that can rotate 90 degrees (Photo: BYD).

As for the BYD M6, this electric car belongs to the mid-size MPV segment, similar in size to the Toyota Innova Cross or Hyundai Custin. When it comes to Vietnam, the direct competitor of the M6 will be the Haima 7X-E, which is currently being distributed at a price of up to 1.23 billion VND.

Sales consultants share that the BYD M6 intended for the Vietnamese market will feature an electric motor with a maximum output of 163 horsepower and a maximum torque of 310Nm. The accompanying lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 55.4kWh, providing a maximum range of 420km on a full charge.

The specifications match the Dynamic version currently on sale in Thailand, according to experts. However, it is likely that the BYD M6 will still be fully imported from China, similar to other products from this brand.

The equipment for the car in the Vietnamese market has not been revealed. In Thailand, the BYD M6 features LED headlights/front lights, 17-inch alloy wheels; an interior with a panoramic sunroof, a 12.8-inch vertical rotatable center screen, electronic shifter, air conditioning with integrated air filter...

The safety features of the car promise to be comprehensive with driver assistance functions such as automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning during reverse, front/rear collision warning, door-opening collision warning, emergency lane-keeping assistance, traffic sign recognition...

In Thailand, BYD M6 is priced at 829,900 - 929,900 baht (equivalent to 615-689 million VND). Experts predict that the price of this car in Vietnam is likely to exceed this range; as the cars in Thailand are domestically assembled, while the ones for Vietnam will not be exempt from taxes if imported from China.

GAC Aion Y Plus

Sources from Dan Tri report that the GAC Aion Y Plus will be introduced in Vietnam in October. In fact, this name has appeared in Vietnam for several months, and there were plans to start sales in June but were postponed.

It is not clear how many variants of the Aion Y Plus will be available in Vietnam. In Thailand, the car is equipped with an electric motor generating 204 horsepower and 225Nm; the accompanying battery has a capacity of 63.2-68.3kWh depending on the variant, providing a maximum range of 490-550km on a full charge.

The features of the car in Thailand include: LED headlights/front lights, 17-inch alloy wheels, a 10.25-inch digital dashboard, a 14.6-inch infotainment screen, a panoramic sunroof, 32-color interior ambient lighting, electronic parking brake, and wireless phone charging.

In Thailand, the GAC Aion Y Plus is distributed in 2 variants with prices ranging from 969,000 - 1,099,900 baht (equivalent to 660-748 million VND). Experts predict that when this model enters the Vietnamese market, it is likely to be priced between 750-850 million VND.

Volvo EC40

In early September, users spotted an unusual SUV coupe-like vehicle on a transporter in Ho Chi Minh City. The front of the vehicle was not visible, and the rear was carefully covered, but the alloy wheels bore the Volvo logo.

Based on the design of these alloy wheels, experts speculate that this is the Volvo EC40. The company has not confirmed this information, but the appearance of the EC40 has been rumored since 2023.

According to the dealer, the Volvo EC40 may be launched in Vietnam this year (Photo: Tran Duc).

The dealer revealed that the Volvo EC40 imported to Vietnam is a version powered by a single electric motor placed on the rear axle. In international markets, this variant has technical specifications of 238 horsepower and 420Nm; providing a maximum range of 483km on a full charge.

In Europe, the EC40 also has a Long Range version, with a maximum range of up to 555km. This variant also has a more powerful electric motor, with a power output of 252 horsepower.

It is not yet clear which market the Volvo EC40 will be imported from when officially launched in Vietnam. Experts predict that the price of this model is likely to exceed 2 billion VND.

In Thailand, this electric car is distributed at a price equivalent to around 1.8 billion VND. However, the configuration of the car for this market is quite powerful, with 2 electric motors placed on both front and rear axles, delivering a total power output of 408 horsepower, and a maximum torque of 660Nm.
