Amidst the anticipation for the tax reduction policy for domestically manufactured and assembled cars, local car manufacturers and dealers are actively offering promotions to stimulate demand. This poses challenges for imported products, especially for remaining 2023 Manufactured and Assembled in Vietnam (VIN 2023) models like the MG ZS.

To clear the remaining stock, many dealers are offering an average discount of around 120 million VND for the MG ZS VIN 2023. This policy applies to the standard STD and LUX versions, while the LUX+ variant is sold out in many places. After the discount, the actual selling prices of these two versions are reduced to 418 million and 468 million VND, respectively.

However, some showrooms are offering even more generous discounts, reducing 150 million VND for the MG ZS LUX VIN 2023, bringing the price down to 438 million VND. Consequently, the actual price of this B-SUV model at the dealership is lower than the listed price of some A-segment cars like the Toyota Raize (498 million VND) or Hyundai Grand i10 (up to 455 million VND).

The MG ZS VIN 2023 doesn't differ much from the VIN 2024 in terms of features, but it depreciates more when resold, especially as the market enters July 2024. This is also a factor that consumers need to consider (Photo: MG).

In the same B-segment SUV category as the MG ZS, the Mitsubishi Xforce is being offered with complimentary physical damage insurance for the mid-range versions (Exceed and Premium). The standard GLX variant receives a 50% registration fee support equivalent to a 30 million VND discount, reducing the price to 569 million VND.

The MG ZS made its debut in Vietnam in 2020 alongside its "big brother" HS. Compared to other competitors in the same segment, the ZS has an attractive listed price but faces barriers due to its new brand and Chinese origins, resulting in less notable consumer appeal.

In 2021, this model received upgrades mid-life and transitioned to being imported from Thailand, adding features but reducing prices due to a 0% import tax rate. This improvement boosted ZS sales, but it still couldn't compete with Japanese or Korean models, according to sales consultants.

From 2021 to now, there hasn't been an upgrade for the MG ZS in Vietnam, causing the car to lose its competitive edge. Meanwhile, the B-segment SUV market continues to heat up with the introduction of new products, intensifying competition in terms of pricing and features.

These factors have made the MG ZS almost a forgotten name among Vietnamese consumers, only garnering attention when significant promotional programs are in effect.
