A new Jaguar Land Rover model will utilize a new chassis platform developed by Tata, the parent company of the brand, and is set to be launched next year.
The new chassis platform from Tata will also be used for a luxury Tata brand vehicle, as revealed by Natarajan Chandrasekaran, chairman of the Tata Group.
Jaguar Land Rover currently has vehicle assembly plants in the UK, Slovakia, Austria, Brazil, India, and China (Image: Autocar).
Both new models will be produced at a completely new plant in India and are planned for export to markets outside of India.
"We can combine Tata Motors' cost perspective with Jaguar Land Rover's design sophistication. Both will benefit, in different ways, and sales will increase, justifying the cost of developing the new chassis platform," Chandrasekaran shared.
The Tata Group chairman has not confirmed which brand the new models will carry or which engines they will use, but they are said to not be electric motors, but rather internal combustion engine vehicles.
With a focus on the Indian market, it is likely that the new models will initially be sold in Asian countries before expanding to other regions.
Jaguar Land Rover's vehicle assembly operations in India are currently being carried out in Pune, where Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles are assembled from completely knocked-down (CKD) kits for the Indian market.
